DIY Shower Steamers are such a fun and easy way to turn your daily shower into a mini spa session.
And if you’re into crafting your own self-care treats, be sure to check out more DIY Beauty ideas to keep those soothing vibes going.
With just a few basic ingredients like baking soda, essential oils, and citric acid, you can create little pucks of aromatherapy magic that fizz and release soothing scents when hit by hot water.
Whether you need a burst of energy to kickstart your day or a calming scent to help you unwind, it’s easy to customize the fragrance to match your mood.
They’re perfect for gifting or adding a little luxury to your everyday routine—and the best part? No bathtub required.

Benefits of Using a Shower Steamer
- Aromatherapy boost – The steam from your shower helps release essential oils from the steamer, creating a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere that supports mood and wellness.
- Easy stress relief – Scents like lavender, eucalyptus, or chamomile can help ease tension and calm your mind without needing a long soak in the tub.
- Clears congestion – Using menthol or eucalyptus-infused steamers can help open up your sinuses and ease stuffiness, especially during cold or allergy season.
- Energy & focus – Citrus or peppermint scents are perfect for an invigorating morning pick-me-up, giving you a natural boost before your day begins.
- No tub needed – Unlike bath bombs, you can enjoy the spa-like benefits even if you don’t have a bathtub—just pop one on the shower floor and go.
- Customizable experience – You can easily tweak the ingredients and essential oils to suit your needs, whether you’re looking for calm, clarity, or a burst of motivation.

How to make a Shower Steamer
Just mix your dry ingredients in a bowl, add a bit of water, toss in some dried eucalyptus leaves, and stir in your essential oils.
Once it’s all combined, press the mixture into a silicone mold (or even a mini muffin tin works!).
The key to a solid steamer is really pressing the mixture firmly into the mold. Use the back of a spoon to compact them—this helps them hold their shape after drying.

Let them dry completely for a day or two in a cool, dry area, then pop them out and store them in a dry spot.
If they feel damp at all, let them sit longer before unmolding or storing.
When you’re ready for a refresh, drop one on the shower floor.

Where do you find eucalyptus leaves
I’ve gotten them at Trader Joe’s, Wegman’s & Whole Foods

The silicone mold should hold 2 teaspoons of mixture to get the 12 steamers as suggested. After filling my molds evenly the product foamed up and overflowed onto the edges. I wasn’t sure if it would shrink back down as it dried or not. It did not, and in hindsight, I would trim away The overflowed portions so the end product looks nice. Also, definitely wait the full amount of time or a day longer because the steamers get ruined as they are removed if not completely rockhard.
Thank you for the recipe; They smell wonderful!
Thank you for the feedback!
This looks so good! What a great combination of flavors!
Thanks for sharing! Does it keep long?
Homemade shower steamers can last about 6 to 12 months if you store them properly – in an airtight container or resealable bag in a cool, dry place
Is there a substitute I could use for the dried eucalyptus leaves?
You can use essential oils instead.
I can’t wait to try this! Can I make other scents?
Absolutely! You can swap out the eucalyptus for something like dried lavender and other scents.
