Why You Should Make Your Own Essential Oil Candles

You can avoid the toxic chemicals in pre-made candles by making your own with natural ingredients such as essential oils and cotton wicks.

Homemade candles not only smell great in any space but these homemade creations also provide an added level of safety for you because there are no toxic chemicals involved.

Candles made from natural waxes like soy wax are a safer alternative to traditional candles because they don’t release toxins and harmful chemicals into the air as the candle burns, like paraffin wax and synthetic fragrances do.

Because you are using a slow burning wax, your soy wax candles will lost a lot longer.

Keep reading for tips on choosing the right essential oils for your candles, as well as instructions on how to make them.

The first thing to do in order to make the candles is to prep your mason jars. Make sure they are clean and dry before starting.

Add the soy wax flakes to the melting pot, and set that inside the shallow saucepan filled with ½ inch of water.

Heat over low heat, stirring often, until the wax is fully melted.

While the was is melting, attach a glue dot to the bottom of the inside of each 4 oz jar, then press the wick into it.

Set the center device on top of the jar, over the wick, then push the wick upright into the slot.

Remove the wax from heat. Add lavender essential oil and stir well.
