How to Use Lavender Bath Bombs

  • Fill Your Tub: Run warm water to your preferred level.
  • Drop in the Bath Bomb: Place the bath bomb in the water and let it fizz.
  • Relax and Enjoy: Soak for at least 20 minutes to allow the essential oils to work.
  • Rinse Off: Lightly rinse to remove any lingering ingredients from the skin.
  • Store Properly: Keep bath bombs in a dry, airtight container to maintain freshness.
Are you supposed to shower after a bath bomb?

You don’t need to shower, but it depends on personal preference and the ingredients of the bath bomb. Some people choose to rinse off after a bath to remove any oils or residue left behind from the bath bomb. However, if you enjoy the skin-softening or aromatic effects, you can skip the shower and simply relax. If your bath bomb contains moisturizing oils, it’s usually fine to leave the residue on your skin to enjoy the benefits!

Can I make lavender bath bombs ahead of time?

Yes, they can be made in batches and stored for up to six months when kept in proper conditions.

Can I substitute ingredients in this recipe?

Yes. Baking soda and citric acid are essential for the fizzing reaction, but you can swap essential oils or add different botanicals for a unique touch.

How to Make Lavender Bath Bombs

Create lavender bath bombs for a calming bath experience you’ll love!
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Drying Time 1 day
Servings 1

Equipment

  • Large Bath Bomb Mold

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup epsom salt
  • 1/4 cup citric acid
  • 4 tsp lavender infused oil
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil
  • Purple Mica Powder

Instructions

  • Combine the corn starch, baking soda, and Epsom salt together. Then set aside the dry ingredients.
  • Add in the essential oil drops into the lavender infused oil and mix thoroughly.
  • Slowly add the infused oil with the dry ingredients. Keep mixing until the mixture can clump together like moon sand. If it doesn’t, you can try adding a teaspoon of infused oil at a time.
  • When the mixture feels ready, slowly add in the citric acid.
  • Then add in the mica powder. I used about 1 teaspoon to get my color.
  • Now add to the bath bomb molds and compact it tightly together. You want the mold to be overflowing so it will stick together.
  • Push the two molds together and twist until the two metals touch each other.
  • Slowly take off one bath bomb mold. Then, repeat for the other side.
  • Set down on something and leave them alone to dry for at least 24 hours or until they are hard to the touch. If they still are crumbly, let them sit longer.

Notes

Essential oils are optional. Any carrier oil works.
You can also use lavender flowers inside the bath bombs if you want as well, but not necessary.
Keep bath bombs in an airtight container or sealed bag in a cool, dry place. Moisture can cause them to activate prematurely.

What is whipped sugar scrub?

Whipped sugar scrub is a luxurious skincare product that combines exfoliating sugar granules with moisturizing oils to create a fluffy, whipped texture.

Typically made with ingredients like sugar, coconut oil, shea butter, and essential oils, whipped sugar scrub gently exfoliates the skin, removing dead cells and impurities, while simultaneously hydrating and nourishing.

This indulgent scrub leaves the skin feeling soft, smooth, and rejuvenated, making it a popular choice for pampering self-care routines.

Benefits of DIY Whipped Sugar Scrub

  • Exfoliating Scrub: The sugar granules help to gently exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin and impurities for a smoother, brighter complexion.
  • Moisturization: The combination of coconut oil, sweet almond oil, and shea butter helps to hydrate and nourish dry skin, leaving it feeling soft and moisturized.
  • Aromatherapy: By adding essential oils, you can customize the fragrance of your whipped sugar scrub to create a spa-like experience and promote relaxation.

Directions:

Experiment with a essential oil blend to create your favorite fragrance and tailor the scrub to your preferences.

Adjust the ratio of oils and sugar to achieve your desired consistency – add more sugar for a coarser scrub or more oils for a softer texture.

How to Use Whipped Sugar Scrub

Here’s how to use your body scrub:

  • Before applying the whipped sugar scrub, dampen your skin with warm water. This helps to soften the skin and prepare it for exfoliation.
  • Using clean hands or a spoon, scoop out a small amount of the whipped sugar scrub from the container. A little goes a long way, so start with a small amount and add more if needed.
  • Gently massage the whipped sugar scrub onto your skin using circular motions. Focus on areas that tend to be dry or rough, such as elbows, knees, and feet. Avoid using the scrub on sensitive areas or broken skin.
  • After exfoliating, rinse your skin thoroughly with warm water to remove the sugar granules and any remaining scrub residue. Take care to ensure that all traces of the scrub are rinsed away.
  • fter rinsing, pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Avoid rubbing, as this can irritate the skin, especially after exfoliation.
  • To lock in moisture and keep your skin hydrated, follow up with a moisturizer or body oil. This helps to replenish the skin’s natural moisture barrier and keep it feeling soft and supple.
  • You can use your homemade sugar scrub 2-3 times per week, depending on your skin type and preferences.

What is the best oil for whipped sugar scrub?

The best oil for whipped sugar scrub depends on individual preferences and skin type. Some commonly used oils for whipped sugar scrub include:

  • Can you use coconut oil in whipped sugar scrub? Known for its moisturizing properties, coconut oil is a popular choice for whipped sugar scrub. It absorbs easily into the skin, leaving it feeling soft and hydrated.
  • Sweet almond oil: Rich in vitamins and minerals, sweet almond oil is lightweight and non-greasy, making it suitable for all skin types. It helps to nourish and moisturize the skin without clogging pores.
  • Jojoba oil: Similar in composition to the skin’s natural oils, jojoba oil is easily absorbed and helps to balance sebum production. It’s suitable for all skin types, including oily and acne-prone skin.
  • Olive oil: Olive oil is rich in antioxidants and has moisturizing properties that help to soften and hydrate the skin. It’s especially beneficial for dry or mature skin.
  • Avocado oil: Avocado oil is deeply moisturizing and rich in vitamins and fatty acids, making it ideal for dry or sensitive skin. It helps to nourish and soothe the skin, leaving it feeling soft and supple.

Ultimately, the best oil for whipped sugar scrub is one that suits your skin type and preferences. Experiment with different oils to find the perfect combination that leaves your skin feeling smooth, hydrated, and pampered.

How long does whipped sugar scrub last?

Generally, your DIY whipped sugar scrub recipe can last anywhere from 6 months to 1 year if stored properly in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. It’s important to keep the container tightly sealed to prevent contamination and preserve the freshness of the scrub.

Additionally, it’s a good idea to avoid introducing water into the scrub during use, as this can shorten its shelf life and increase the risk of bacterial growth. If you notice any changes in color, texture, or scent, it’s best to discard the scrub and make a fresh batch.

Using a bath bomb is a simple and enjoyable process:

  • Start by filling your bathtub with warm water to your desired level.
  • Once the tub is filled, simply drop the bath bomb into the bath  water. Watch as it fizzes and dissolves, releasing its fragrance and color into the water.
  • Step into the bath and relax as the bath bomb transforms the water into a soothing and aromatic oasis. You can gently swish the water around to disperse the colors and fragrance evenly.
  • Take your time to soak in the bath, allowing the ingredients in the bath bomb to nourish and pamper your skin. Close your eyes, unwind, and enjoy the luxurious experience.
  • Once you’re finished soaking, simply drain the tub and rinse off any residue from the bath bomb that may be left on your skin or in the tub.
  • After bathing, pat your skin dry with a towel and enjoy the softness and subtle fragrance left behind by the bath bomb.

Bath Bomb Storage Ideas

Store bath bombs in airtight containers to protect them from moisture and humidity, which can cause them to lose their fizziness and fragrance over time.

Ensure your bath bombs are thoroughly dry before storing them to prevent them from prematurely fizzing in storage.

When stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, homemade bath bombs can last for several months.

Here are some bath bomb storage ideas to keep your creations fresh and organized:

  • A glass jar like mason jars are a stylish and practical option for storing bath bombs. They keep the bombs sealed and can add a decorative touch to your bathroom decor.
  • Use decorative boxes or tins to store your bath bombs. Not only do they provide airtight storage, but they also make lovely gifts or bathroom accessories.
  • If you have a dedicated drawer for bath and body products, use drawer organizers to keep your bath bombs neatly arranged and easily accessible.
  • Install floating shelves in your bathroom to display your bath bombs as decorative accents while keeping them within reach.
  • Don’t forget to label your storage containers with the scent and date of creation to keep track of your inventory and ensure you use them before they expire.

Choose the storage option that best fits your space and aesthetic preferences, and enjoy having your bath bombs on hand whenever you need a luxurious soak in the tub.

How much does it cost to make a batch of bath bombs?

The cost of making a batch of bath bombs varies depending on factors like ingredient quality and quantity. Generally, the cost ranges from $5.00 to $20.00 or more, considering ingredients like baking soda, citric acid, oils, and essential oils. Purchasing items in bulk or during sales can help reduce overall costs, making homemade bath bombs an affordable option for self-care or gifting.

Important Step for Essential Oil Safety

Just like you wouldn’t put perfume directly on your skin, you wouldn’t use an essential oil without a carrier oil. A carrier oil helps to dilute the potent essential oils and also provides a base for them to adhere to.

When using a carrier oil with essential oils, you’ll want to start with a small amount of oil and then add more as needed. You can experiment with different ratios until you find one that works best for you.

There are a variety of carrier oils available, so you can choose one that suits your needs. Sweet almond oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, and grapeseed oil all make a great base.

Once you’ve chosen your carrier oil, simply add a few drops of your desired essential oil products or your own essential oil blends. Gently massage the mixture into your skin, taking care not to overdo it. You should start to feel the benefits of the oils within a few minutes.

Be sure to do a small patch test on an insensitive part of the body to make sure there is no skin irritation.
