DIY Shower Steamers are such a fun and easy way to turn your daily shower into a mini spa session.

And if you’re into crafting your own self-care treats, be sure to check out more DIY Beauty ideas to keep those soothing vibes going.

With just a few basic ingredients like baking soda, essential oils, and citric acid, you can create little pucks of aromatherapy magic that fizz and release soothing scents when hit by hot water.

Whether you need a burst of energy to kickstart your day or a calming scent to help you unwind, it’s easy to customize the fragrance to match your mood.

They’re perfect for gifting or adding a little luxury to your everyday routine—and the best part? No bathtub required.

Benefits of Using a Shower Steamer

    1. Aromatherapy boost – The steam from your shower helps release essential oils from the steamer, creating a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere that supports mood and wellness.
    2. Easy stress relief – Scents like lavender, eucalyptus, or chamomile can help ease tension and calm your mind without needing a long soak in the tub.
    3. Clears congestion – Using menthol or eucalyptus-infused steamers can help open up your sinuses and ease stuffiness, especially during cold or allergy season.
    4. Energy & focus – Citrus or peppermint scents are perfect for an invigorating morning pick-me-up, giving you a natural boost before your day begins.
    5. No tub needed – Unlike bath bombs, you can enjoy the spa-like benefits even if you don’t have a bathtub—just pop one on the shower floor and go.
    6. Customizable experience – You can easily tweak the ingredients and essential oils to suit your needs, whether you’re looking for calm, clarity, or a burst of motivation.

How to make a Shower Steamer

Just mix your dry ingredients in a bowl, add a bit of water, toss in some dried eucalyptus leaves, and stir in your essential oils.

Once it’s all combined, press the mixture into a silicone mold (or even a mini muffin tin works!).

The key to a solid steamer is really pressing the mixture firmly into the mold. Use the back of a spoon to compact them—this helps them hold their shape after drying.

    PRINT

Let them dry completely for a day or two in a cool, dry area, then pop them out and store them in a dry spot.

If they feel damp at all, let them sit longer before unmolding or storing.

When you’re ready for a refresh, drop one on the shower floor.

How to Use Your Bath Bombs

      • Fill the tub with warm water to your desired level. Warmer water helps release the essential oils more effectively.
      • Drop in the bath bomb and let it fizz.
      • Let It fully dissolve, releasing its soothing scent and beneficial ingredients into the bath
      • Soak and relax for at least 15–20 minutes.

Before you start, it’s a good idea to gather all your supplies. Having everything ready makes the process smoother and ensures you don’t accidentally leave anything out. Grab a large mixing bowl, a small jar with a lid, a whisk, and your molds.

First, whisk together the dry ingredients—baking soda, Epsom salt, cornstarch, citric acid, mica powder, and dried eucalyptus leaves—in a large bowl.

      PRINT

In a small jar, combine the sweet almond (or coconut) oil, water, and eucalyptus essential oil. Secure the lid and shake well.

Slowly pour the liquid mixture into the dry ingredients, whisking constantly to prevent any fizzing. Once everything is evenly mixed, overfill both halves of your bath bomb mold, press them together firmly, and gently twist.

Let the bath bombs set for at least 8 hours before carefully removing them from the molds. If they stick, lightly tap the sides and bottom to help release them.

What Essential Oils Should Not Be Used in Bath Bombs?

Some essential oils can be too harsh for the skin when used in bath bombs. It’s best to avoid cinnamon, clove, oregano, and thyme, as they can cause irritation. Peppermint may feel cooling but can be overpowering in high amounts. Citrus oils like lemon and bergamot can increase sun sensitivity, so use them with caution.

What Is the Best Carrier Oil for Bath Bombs?

The best carrier oil depends on your skin type and preference. Sweet almond oil is lightweight and moisturizing, while coconut oil adds hydration and has antibacterial properties. Jojoba oil closely mimics the skin’s natural oils for deep nourishment, and grapeseed oil absorbs quickly for a non-greasy feel. Each of these options helps bind the ingredients while providing skin-loving benefits.

        Prep Time 10 minutes
        8 hours
        Course Crafts
        Servings 5

        Ingredients

        • ½ cup baking soda
        • ¼ cup epsom salt
        • ¼ cup corn starch
        • ¼ cup citric acid
        • ½ tsp green mica powder
        • 1 tbsp dried eucalyptus leaves
        • 1 tbsp sweet almond oil or coconut oil
        • ½ tbsp water
        • 20 drops eucalyptus oil

        Instructions

        • Add the dry ingredients to a large mixing bowl: baking soda, epsom salts, cornstarch, citric acid, mica, and eucalyptus leaves. Stir with a whisk until completely combined.
        • Add the wet ingredients: oil, water and eucalyptus oil to a small jar, secure the lid, and shake well.
        • Slowly pour the liquid mixture into the dry mixture, whisking the bath bomb mixture the entire time, so as not to activate the fizz
        • Overfill two halves of the bath bomb molds, push together, and gently twist.
        • Allow bath bombs to set for 8 hours or more, then remove from the mold. You may need to gently tap the bottoms and sides of the mold for them to release easier.

        Notes

To store bath bombs, keep them in an airtight container, in a cool, dry place away from moisture. Moisture can cause bath bombs to start fizzing prematurely, so make sure they’re completely dry before storing. A dark cupboard or drawer works well.
They generally stay fresh for about 3-6 months. After that, they may start to lose their fizzing power or fragrance. To get the most out of them, try to use them within a few months for the best results!

If you’ve ever wondered how to dry chamomile for tea, it’s a simple and rewarding process that lets you enjoy fresh, homemade chamomile tea anytime!

What part of chamomile is used for tea?

For tea, the flower heads are used. These contain the essential oils and beneficial compounds that give chamomile its soothing properties. The stems and leaves are generally not used, as they can have a slightly bitter taste. Once dried, the flower heads can be steeped in hot water to make a calming herbal tea.

        how to grow chamomile

When to harvest chamomile flowers for tea?

        • They are best harvested when they are in full bloom, typically in the late morning after the dew has dried but before the sun gets too hot.
        • Look for flowers with fully open white petals and a bright yellow center. Harvesting at this stage ensures the highest concentration of essential oils, giving the best flavor and aroma for tea.
        • Regular harvesting also encourages more blooms throughout the season. If you’re growing chamomile for tea, check your plants every few days and pick flowers as they reach their peak.

What are the benefits of dried chamomile?

Dried chamomile has several benefits, making it a popular choice for herbal remedies and tea. Some of its key benefits include:

        • Promotes Relaxation – Chamomile is known for its calming properties, making it a great bedtime tea to help with sleep.
        • Supports Digestion – It can soothe an upset stomach and aid digestion.
        • Reduces Inflammation – Chamomile has natural anti-inflammatory properties that may help with skin irritation and mild aches.
        • Boosts Immune Health – Its antioxidants can support overall wellness.
        • Great for DIY Skincare – Dried chamomile can be used in baths, face masks, and homemade lotions.

What is the best way to dry chamomile flowers?

The best way to dry chamomile flowers is by air drying.

        • Spread the freshly picked flowers in a single layer on a clean drying rack, paper towel, or mesh screen in a warm, dry area away from direct sunlight.
        • Good airflow is key, so choose a well-ventilated space.
        • Let them dry for about 1–2 weeks until they feel crisp.
        • If you need a faster method, use a dehydrator on the lowest setting (95°F-105°F) for a few hours.
        • Once fully dried, store them in an airtight container in a cool, dark place to preserve their flavor and benefits.

Should I wash chamomile before drying?

It’s best not to wash chamomile flowers before drying, as excess moisture can slow down the drying process and increase the risk of mold. Instead, gently shake off any dirt or insects and inspect the flowers for debris before laying them out to dry.

How long to air dry chamomile flowers?

Air drying chamomile flowers typically takes 1–2 weeks. The exact time depends on humidity and airflow. You’ll know they’re ready when they feel crisp and crumble easily.

          Does dry chamomile go bad?

Dried chamomile doesn’t spoil in the traditional sense, but it can lose its potency over time. Store it in an airtight container in a cool, dark place, and use it within 6–12 months for the best flavor and benefits.

How do you make your own dry shampoo?

          • Choose the right base powder – For light hair, cornstarch or arrowroot powder works best. For dark hair, use cocoa powder or activated charcoal.
          • Add essential oils – Lavender, peppermint, or rosemary oils can provide a fresh scent and even promote hair health. Only one drop is needed.
          • Store properly – Keep the dry shampoo in an airtight container to maintain its effectiveness and scent.
          • Use a brush or applicator – Apply dry shampoo to your roots using a makeup brush or shaker bottle for precise distribution.
          • Test before full use – Always test a small amount on your scalp to ensure no allergic reactions or residue issues.

Is arrowroot or cornstarch better for dry shampoo?

Both work well for dry shampoo, but the best choice depends on your hair type and personal preference:

          • Arrowroot Powder – Lighter and finer in texture, making it easier to blend into the scalp. It absorbs oil well without being too heavy, making it a great option for those with sensitive scalps or fine hair.
          • Cornstarch – Slightly heavier and more absorbent, making it ideal for those with oily hair. However, it can sometimes leave a white cast on darker hair if not blended properly.

If you have sensitive skin or prefer a lighter feel, arrowroot may be the better choice. If you need stronger oil absorption, cornstarch might work best. You can also mix both.

How do I store dry shampoo?

Store in an airtight container, such as a glass jar or small shaker bottle, to keep it fresh and free from moisture. Avoid storing it in humid environments as it can affect the powder’s ability to absorb oil.

Can I prepare dry shampoo in advance?

Yes, you can make it in advance and store it for several weeks. Just be sure to keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain its shelf life.

How to Use Lavender Bath Bombs

            • Fill Your Tub: Run warm water to your preferred level.
            • Drop in the Bath Bomb: Place the bath bomb in the water and let it fizz.
            • Relax and Enjoy: Soak for at least 20 minutes to allow the essential oils to work.
            • Rinse Off: Lightly rinse to remove any lingering ingredients from the skin.
            • Store Properly: Keep bath bombs in a dry, airtight container to maintain freshness.
Are you supposed to shower after a bath bomb?

You don’t need to shower, but it depends on personal preference and the ingredients of the bath bomb. Some people choose to rinse off after a bath to remove any oils or residue left behind from the bath bomb. However, if you enjoy the skin-softening or aromatic effects, you can skip the shower and simply relax. If your bath bomb contains moisturizing oils, it’s usually fine to leave the residue on your skin to enjoy the benefits!

Can I make lavender bath bombs ahead of time?

Yes, they can be made in batches and stored for up to six months when kept in proper conditions.

Can I substitute ingredients in this recipe?

Yes. Baking soda and citric acid are essential for the fizzing reaction, but you can swap essential oils or add different botanicals for a unique touch.

How to Make Lavender Bath Bombs

Create lavender bath bombs for a calming bath experience you’ll love!
            Prep Time 5 minutes
            Cook Time 5 minutes
            Drying Time 1 day
            Servings 1

            Equipment

            • Large Bath Bomb Mold

            Ingredients

            • 1/4 cup cornstarch
            • 1/2 cup baking soda
            • 1/4 cup epsom salt
            • 1/4 cup citric acid
            • 4 tsp lavender infused oil
            • 10 drops lavender essential oil
            • Purple Mica Powder

            Instructions

            • Combine the corn starch, baking soda, and Epsom salt together. Then set aside the dry ingredients.
            • Add in the essential oil drops into the lavender infused oil and mix thoroughly.
            • Slowly add the infused oil with the dry ingredients. Keep mixing until the mixture can clump together like moon sand. If it doesn’t, you can try adding a teaspoon of infused oil at a time.
            • When the mixture feels ready, slowly add in the citric acid.
            • Then add in the mica powder. I used about 1 teaspoon to get my color.
            • Now add to the bath bomb molds and compact it tightly together. You want the mold to be overflowing so it will stick together.
            • Push the two molds together and twist until the two metals touch each other.
            • Slowly take off one bath bomb mold. Then, repeat for the other side.
            • Set down on something and leave them alone to dry for at least 24 hours or until they are hard to the touch. If they still are crumbly, let them sit longer.

            Notes

Essential oils are optional. Any carrier oil works.
You can also use lavender flowers inside the bath bombs if you want as well, but not necessary.
Keep bath bombs in an airtight container or sealed bag in a cool, dry place. Moisture can cause them to activate prematurely.
